Its actually easy, there's a rule stating that a player registered on a pro team cannot paricipate in a recreational league.

if you are refering to CSL teams, those arent Pro teams.

Well, I know it used to be called the CPSL, the "P" stood for "Professional". Maybe the "P" was dropped for that reason.

I see they still refer to themselves as "professional" on their website, but maybe that's just like dentists calling themselves doctors.

Laughing

If they are 'contracted' players then that is deemed professional. If you are signed to play and are paid then you are considered professional. If you play in BAS and Admin says you are professional... no, you are not professional! Laughing

Ok so hypothetically this former professional player is playing in BAS and he is dismissed from the league because of his previous status as a professional player from eons ago.....

Does that mean that you are going to also dismiss Mark Burns, Calvin Rosario, Nicky Miodrag, Kadian Lecky, Richard West, Alex Arbelo, Fed Dimarco, Andrew Da Silva, Stavros Badunas etc. etc. etc.????

Seems like if you segregate one you'd have to do it to all.... and to be perfectly honest it is not fair for the guys who make this league that much more exciting and contribute to good soccer. These are players that assisted in making this league as renowned as it is and helped it's growth so that you know play in nicer venues as opposed to the gym at Terry Miller Recreation Center.

If your worried about how you look in front of your kids and that dady isn't the goal scorer honestly give your head a shake it's rec soccer.

If it's highlights you want for your kid, watch EPL on Saturday mornings.... or go rent Goal and Goal 2.

This topic is boring now.

As boring as the topic is, Ultra1 has a point. Here it is. If you are a player with CURRENT pro status, then you have to be re-instated by the CSA to play amateur soccer. Seems simple enough, right? Here's the problems:

1) Is the CSL considered a professional league by CSA. I think it is, but good luck trying to get an answer on anything from the CSA. I could called the CSA and leave a message telling them that I have 1 million dollars in cash for them and I just need to know where to drop it off, and STILL NO ONE WOULD GET BACK TO ME. Shocked

2) Is rec soccer considered "amateur" soccer or is it not even on the radar? What is amateur soccer? If a pro wanted to play soccer at his family reunion picnic, would he have to be re-instated as an amateur in order to do so?

3) Let's assume a player with current pro status was ready, willing, and able to apply for re-statement as an amateur. How easy is that? Where's the paperwork? Where do you send it? How long does it take? Is there a fee? Is there a 1-800 number to call? Can is be done online? It would appear that one would have an easier time getting a VISA to North Korea than getting re-instated as an amateur by the CSA.

Assuming this kinda thing happens often with CSL players, I've emailed their commissioner to see if he can shed some light on it.

The release from the professional club is very true.... it can take some time, depending if the club dealing with the release have good terms with the players release. They can be really pissed at the player and deny his release until his contract it up.
It's happened, I've seen it. A release is necessary.

you can get paid in the CSL and not be pro, a CSL player signs 1 of 2 contracts as far as I know..they are either signed to a pro contract or an amateur contract. If they are signed to a pro contract then you guys are correct they need to get put back into amateur status by the CSA.

I know one way CSL teams sometimes get around things is they sign there pro players to amateur contracts...but they pay them under the table! so as far as i know not many people in the CSL are signed to pro contracts...

An interesting wrinkle and one that never occurred to me.

Thanx, Rick21.

I guess the league's going to let it slide AGAIN! Why should any rules stand then?
Everyone in that division should forfeit their games against B.C.
