Sunday Night |
|
With regards to the incident that happened Sunday night, I suggest all players take note.
"Whereas the referee assault problem in Ontario continues unabated; and whereas many OSRA members who have been assaulted in recent years in their capacities as game offiicials have sustained very serious injuries; and whereas the OSRA, in the light of the inadequacy and ineffectiveness of the measures taken by the soccer authorities to deal with the referee assault problem in Ontario, is committed to protect its members. be it resolved that when an OSRA member reports that he/she has been assaulted, the member`s Branch is empowered to advise all OSRA members, through Branch Secretaries, not to provide service to that team and/or club until such time that the member`s Branch is satisfied that adequate protection for all referees is being provided by the league, team and/or club"

This resolution was passed by the Ontario Soccer Referee's Association back in 1974. They are not referring to a particular league/association. PHSL does do a good job dealing with discipline cases.

So.... what incident happened on Sunday night? Something with Nerazzurri and MKD? Since it is under investigation and now Nerazzurri have $$$$ and a strikethrough?

... as does BAS.
The Nilestown and Bowmansville resolutions were introduced by the OSRA because OSA / District Associations / Leagues / et al were doing nothing about referee assault and abuse.
Things are different now, because most Districts and Leagues have proper procedures in place and do a good job in handling discipline fairly and in a timely fashion, making these resolutions somewhat antiquated and not needed, however they are still in place and can be called upon if needed.
OSRA Brampton has an excellent relationship and complete faith with both the District (PHSA) and BAS, so resurrecting these resolutions is highly unlikely as the matter is already being dealt with.
Having said that, individual referees (OSRA members or not) may choose independently that they would not rather not officiate a team that has a bad reputation.

absolute joke |

highly exxaggerated incident on the refs part just so everyone knows, there was maybe incidental contact and it was the refs fault not the players, this player now faces expulsion from all soccer because a ref ran at him and cried foul and went to the hospital, its ridiculous that this man can sleep at night!!!!

Eusebio, first I'll admit I was not there so my comments are COMPLETELY hearsay.
But, when a ref goes to the hopsital for emergency retna surgery, I believe the player definitely has some questions to answer. Refs 'blow' games all the time, many in my lifetime have I felt sheer incompetence from the lead official. However, never have a I nutted a ref in the face for something I felt was an injustice.
Expulsion for this 'seems' to be just, you simply can't do that.
AGAIN, hearsay, so please enlighten me if I am mislead.
I am very sorry this has all transpired, it is sad and upsetting for everybody involved. From the league down to the kids watching.

Were you there? or did you just hear about it? My personal feelings towards this ref are known by a few in the league but if we don't protect our refs we wont have them for long! but to say the ref caused the incident is ridiculous. And if you have seen the ref, to say he ran at the player is total bull! he doesn't run ..........
The player was given a red card for mouthing off at the ref, which this ref has never taking a lecture off anyone on the field.... The player was heading off then returned to the ref to continue his complaint. The head butt may have been soft but the result of the ref receiving medical attention proves he connected enough to do damage.
We all play this sport for the love of it. you win some you lose some. As mb7 says, refs get calls wrong all the time but we cant go around hitting them to prove your point.

Assault on the ref? WOW...the guy hit the ref consider your playing days in Ontario done for years. I knew of a guy who got suspended for 5 years from all soccer activities (under OSA) just for spitting at the ref.
No it wasn't me who spat lol....

By no means do i approve the abuse of any official but what i was stating was, (because i was at the game and on the field and 5 feet away from the so called incident) is that there was no contact other than the ref getting directly in the face of the player and i mean directly i only heard there was an apparent headbutt three days later, i saw no headbutt at all, i was right there!!!, yes the player did have a verbel confrontation with the ref, which many of us have, but to go to the hospital and potentially ban someone from playing soccer for life if this goes through for no assault is ridiculous, everyone knows the way this works, the ref is "God" on the field so whatever he says goes, just like the police, but by no means should someone abuse there power. This is being taken serious, as it should but there were many people there and not one person saw this apparent retinal damaging headbutt, WHY? if it was such a bad assault why did no one know about it, thats all i am saying, because now this player will not be playing the game he loves until his hearing, and then what?

I was on the field and seen the incident. There might not have been much contact but the intent was there. Put it this way: if your driving your car down the highway and someone cuts you off( without making contact) but you swerve and hit something else, who's at fault. The idiot who cut you off. The injury that the ref has could be caused from reacting and pulling his head away(as anyone would have done)
