Sub on |
|
Here's my question. Last game I had some late players. I was able to start the game with 10 fielded players - all who signed "the sheet". Two late players arrived five minutes after the start of the game. I was told by the ref that I could NOT field a player OR sub ( I had a player who wanted to come off due to injury, but could not since it would have brought us down players even further) since the late players had NOT signed "the sheet". I was told that this was in the rule book.
Is this true - I have never heard about this before.
(The really odd thing to this was that before the game I mentioned that I would have late players and if I could get them to sign the form at half - I had no mention that I could NOT field the late players)

See 4REST's previous answer. 4REST, I'm wondering if something happened at one of the OSRA meetings that is bringing this to the forefront. Honestly, in the last 3000+ BAS matches, I can't recall ever hearing about a ref not allowing a player to join a match after arriving late (so long as they sign the sheet at halftime). Now, it looks like it happened 3 or 4 times on the weekend with 3 or 4 different referees.

the message was to make sure you get the team sheets before the game starts... and we talked about allowing late arrivals being put on the sheet at halftime in rec soccer as being acceptable.

My suggestion:
Put their name on the teamsheet before the game starts and tell the ref (and the opponents coach) that player is arriving late. They can sign at halftime, and can play when they arrive.
If they are not named on the teamsheet, they can be added at halftime but cannot play until the second half.
If they arrive after the second half has started, they cannot play, even if they are named on the teamsheet.

Sooo.... I don't get it... All names are already on the gamesheet - we have pre-printed gamesheets for all players to sign. I'm supposed TO KNOW who, on my team is going to be late???? If, by the odd chance I do, I have to tell the ref, who will make note of who that person is, and then that person will be alowed on the field??? If the person cannot make it by half he /she cannot play... pardon me, but whoever paid 140$ to the league has all the right in the world to play, be it for 90 minutes or 30 minutes.
Lets all take a little step back here and think about this for a sec...
This is REC soccer no matter what the division... P-TAR... these rules (which are supposed to stop the cheaters) is choaking everyone else. I really don't have the time for this... making gamesheets and arguing with ref's... this is starting to become more work than its worth.
Just for the record, I'm going to put on my gamesheet everyones name and then I'll leave the shirt ##'s blank. That way the ref can fill in who is accounted for via number. If I cheat, or use the wrong shirt number, ADMIN can review / punish.

I think what 4REST is getting at is let's say you have 16 players on your roster, then 16 players s/b be on the game sheet. Let's say 5 minutes before kick off, only 12 of your players are there, well then when the ref asks for the game sheet, kindly inform him that there could be 4 players (16 - 12) arriving late and they will sign at half time.
As for showing up after half time, nope...that's already in the rules and not up for debate although you are more than welcome to table a change at the next ACM.
Those who think that it's more trouble than it's worth are typically making more work for themselves. All leagues use gamesheets and I can't see it being any different anywhere else. Please don't bring up the picture thing...it's just as "cheatable" as all the other methods.
I play in this league too. I have a gamesheet. It has all my players' shirt #'s on it and their names. They show up and they sign it. Simple. There are no arrows, names scratched out and others written in, two players with the same number, missing shirt numbers, players signing beside the wrong name, and all the other garbage that lends to this problem.
Yes, it's "Rec Soccer", but let's not use this as an excuse to force issues that should not be forced.
"Shin guards, ref?? C'mon it's 'Rec Soccer' "
"No subs on the fly, ref? C'mon it's only 'Rec Soccer' "
"No T-shirt with a number taped on the back, ref? C'mon, this isn't the World Cup!!!!"
If you're looking for a kick-about, there's a bunch a kids that play every afternoon at the end of my street. I can guarantee you that there are no gamesheets to sign and no ref will ever bother you.

since we're on the topic of subs, how come some refs allow changes only on goal kicks and some allow it during any stoppage? I dont think FIFA rules state you can only change on goal kicks.

Here is our rule for men: Substitutions are unlimited, but may only occur on: goal kicks, after a goal has been scored, at half-time, or during an injury stoppage (at referee's discretion). No substitutions may occur on throw ins, corner kicks, free kicks, or before penalty kicks. For the Masters 35+ Division, substitutions MAY occur on throw ins (initiated by the throwing team only). The referee must be notified and give permission for all substitutions.
If FIFA allows on any stoppage, that works because you can only sub to a maximum of 3/team. If rec soccer (unlimited subs) allows subs on any stoppage, can you imagine the fiasco everytime a team is winning 2 - 1 with under 10 minutes left???? Hence the need for some restriction.
