No, there is no free soccer (although we are working on something that will be free )
YES, women's teams pay same fee as men's teams. But, those making the argument are erroneously assuming that the cost to run the men's program is the same as the women's program. It is not. There are certain synergies* that exist in the men's program that we can take advantage of that do not exist in the women's program. I'm not going to disclose them all here because why should I help out the competition, but here's one:
Men can play as early as 4:30pm during regular season. That means we could play a 4:30pm and a 6:30pm match (double header) without the need for lights. Women cannot do this because they play on Friday nights so the earliest match in 7pm. Any women's double headers require lights, big lights, big fancy energy non-efficient expensive lights.
* Four friends plan to drive down to Florida and rent a beach house for a week. The decide they will split the cost of gas and the rental of the beach house. They divide the total by 4 and each has to pony up $450. At the last minute, a fifth friend decides to go. Should they all still be paying $450?

Look I am not trying to be difficult, the women's rights advocate of the BAS or anything like that. I just want to play....I actually want to see if any of the over 35 could knock us out. I would love to step up and play against the likes of KP and see how the vixens and Maguire's would do against my team or any for that matter. So what harm would there be in order to put a quick communication together and send it out prior to the meeting and then vote??? |
May 3rd meeting is not used for proposals, voting, etc.. If it were, we'd never get outta there. People tend to "glaze over" halfway thru the meeting as it is (Sorry 4REST, hopefully you can awaken the bunch. ). The plan on May 3rd (unless Jenny10 accepts the offer to do a proposal) is to give a brief background and then take "expressions of interest". I'm not expecting anyone to commit to it on the 3rd, but if there's not even any expressed interest, consider it dead. If we get enough "interest" on the 3rd, then I can start to put the rest of it together. However, as I've stated many times above: not gonna do it if it's 5 of the top 6 teams interested and some other team from IIC (who may end up dropping out once they find out they are the only lower-tiered team interested). I can say without reservation that the men's event too would be cancelled if it were just the top teams interested. We know Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus and all that, but the BAS Cup generates more interest among the lower-tiered men's teams than the higher teams. Strange, but true.

I'm going to side with the admin here and state, quite confidently, that he's got his finger on the pulse of the women's game and that his assessment that it won't happen, is accurate.
People have to consider that teams in women's divisions have REFUSED to play teams in their own division because they are TOO good and it isn't fair that a team is better than you.
Seriously, you can't make this sort of stuff up.
There have been orchestrated multiple forfeits, teams abandoning games because they have ONLY 3 subs present and their best player couldn't make it and as such it was unreasonable to play the 1st place team.
Women's inter-divisional cup = It won't happen.
I have seen admin get pulled aside by women (at KG) and berated because their opponents, whom they just beat, had 1 player that they felt was too good to have played against them. BUT they had just won. Convincingly too.
The attitude towards soccer between 'most' women and 'most' men is entirely different. Now that the 'old' guard of individuals running BAS teams seems to be fading away, that attitude may change. I hope it does. (Please note that I said most; I'm not making absolute statements about entire genders but am drawing upon years of experience with the women's set up.)

Cautiously optimistic at this time.
