Post Coed Division A Division Champs & Top Goal Scorer Reply with quote
Just wanted to throw it out there for all who listen and all who may have a comment to share on this topic..................I guess that is the main reason for a forum.........but hey here it goes......................

I play on a team in Division A for Coed this summer session. The session itself was a 8 game session (quite short) and we had a division realignment after all teams had met each other in week 7 and after each team played 6 games. Following this alignment we had a team come up into our division with only 2 games left to play. They came up to face only 2 teams in our division, 1 which finished 4th place and the other finished 5th place. This team came up with all of their points AND GOALS and lost 4 - 2 to the 4th place team and won 1 - 0 to the 5th place team (which in my opinion was only because that 5th place team didn't bring it like they normally do).

So here is the thing.........how could we possibly name them top of the league when they didn't play all of the teams and didn't even meet the 2nd and 3rd place team? I find this absurd! In my opinion you either give it automatically to the 2nd place or you have 1st and 2nd meet each other in a game for the title. To make things even worse I would like to point something else out. They also have the player who has now been crowned TOP GOAL SCORER in our division. CAN I POINT OUT HE NEVER SCORED 1 GOAL AGAINST ANY TEAM IN OUR DIVISION? So how crazy is that...........Marc Anderson Team B.A.M.F. is the Top Goal Scorer of Division A and never even scored against a team in division A! WHAT????????????

Here is my opinion..........

UKS United is DIVISIONAL Champs (not playoffs though since that'll be ours Wink )
Rocco Sciaraffa from the Assassins is top goal scorer in DIVISON A

I am in no way suggesting that people shouldn't be promoted or relegated in any way shape or form. I believe it is imperative that teams understand that it is only normal for 2 to go up........and 2 to go down EACH SEASON! If teams think that going out each week and killing people 10 - 0 is "FUN" then they need their heads checked however what I am saying is it should be done only upon the season finishing or if the season is long enough that they can play all teams in both divisions.......otherwise it is unfair. I understand that there are teams that cannot carry the same skill in their teams all year.......I understand that the team you field for outdoor could be GARBAGE but the indoor one is Fantastic and vice versa. That is why it should be discussed with each captain before the first kick of the ball what the skill level is for each division before they enter the league for the first time.......otherwise.....it should be mandated that 2 go up....and 2 go down! Otherwise we end up with the crap that happened above!

Post Upsets Last Night............ Reply with quote
So here is an example on how playing with the divisions and manipulating them mid season actually causes more harm than good.............last night we had an "Elimination" round for our playoffs because of the fact that a team was added to our division with all of their points. Our team ended up being knocked out as well as the team that had held 1st place all season until the promotion.

We didn't even make the final 4 and finished in 3rd. We lost last night.......FAIRLY.......but I find it shocking! Well played All-Star Strikers! Predictions now..............UKS UNITED vs ASSASSINS..........gonna be a good final as long as there aren't any more upsets in the semis!

What I want to know is for those people who are voting NO in the poll..........What do you think should be done? No Promotions, No Relegations? Are we all to just sit in whatever division we feel like until Admin feels a change needs to be made? Are you happy with the way it is done now mid season?

1st off...UKS cant play Assasins in finals becuz they play in semis.

2nd...who is the team that ended up being "knocked out that had held 1st place all season until the promotion."???

3rd...you playd the 6th place team and lost. Its called an "upset" and has nothing to do with promotion. Deal with it.

As for the vote, the "No's" likely feel that the changes benefit the majority rather than do nothing to please the whiney minority.

All being said this session was messed up. When teams don't get a chance to play other teams in there division how can you possibly crown a champion? I ain't whining we didn't make the finals because we didn't play to the other teams level on the night... But as stated the top goal scorer didn't net a goal after promotion. Don't know who you are or who you play for but your in for a shock next session as the league gets far more fierce. This was a kick-about and our team all had fun. We will be out to watch the rest of the session till the end. That's sportsmanship! oh, just noticed admin deleted something that wasn't appropriate! Fair play!

FTBL GIRL I completely agree with you, if your going to move teams up or down(which to me should be done at the end of the season) do it half way through the season not when there are only 2 games left, it just doesn't make any sense. I guess its trial and error hopefully next session things will be worked out better. Smile

Post Re-alignments and top scorer Reply with quote
Hi guys,
My name is Cristina Manase and I play for Team B.A.M.F.
Here are my opinions/suggestions in hopes that every player on every team can enjoy the league:

Issue 1: The re-alignment

BAS always relegates teams after every team has had the chance to play every other team in their division. This is because if they relegated teams earlier you would have complaints such as: “but we never got to play the worst place team and get 3 points off of them like the other teams because you relegated them out of our division early!”

They’re trying their best to keep everyone happy. Hence why Admin allowed 6 teams into the playoffs instead of the regular 4. 6 teams out of 7 is a much better deal, they were trying their best to give everyone a shot at winning those medals for the FINALS.

However this season, things were a bit messy. Team B.A.M.F. and Mississauga United replaced each other. What happened when Mississauga United got moved down? They won 7-1 and 7-0.
Was this move even worth it if Team B.A.M.F. had the same scores earlier in the season? NO.
Were the teams in the lower division happy they were losing by high numbers? NO.

SO how do we solve that?

Here’s my suggestion:
This season we should have had 3 divisions: A, B, C
14 teams = 4 to 5 teams per division with 8 games as usual = play each team twice and some three times.

Same number of teams, same number of games which means there is room in the soccer center to set up 3 divisions.

Although some people may dislike playing the same 3 or 4 teams, I think they would enjoy it if the divisions were set up well and you are playing other teams at your exact level. It’s challenging and fun and I think the scores would be close and exciting.

As was mentioned earlier a meeting before the season to let Admin know how strong your team is compared to last season may benefit a better initial alignment. I think that's a great idea FTBL girl.

Issue 2: The top scorer.

I agree that Marc Anderson does not deserve the top scorer trophy for Division A if he never scored goals in that division. However on a side note, both Marc and I were NOT at the two games we had in Division A as we were on vacation those two weeks which is a little different if we were there and got shut out from scoring.

If we were to give Marc the trophy for Division B however, the messiness with Mississauga United comes back. Steven Dosen of Mississauga United scored 9 goals while he was in Division A and then scored 7 goals in the two games in Division B.

So now what are we supposed to do?

Does Steven Dosen now deserve the trophy and not Marc? Top scorer with the relegation is a huge problem.

I’m not sure how to please everyone here because of this mess. The best I have to offer is give a trophy to Steven, Marc and Rocco, but for the future I don’t know what is fair if a team gets relegated, maybe someone has better suggestions?

All in all, our teams just have to try their best with whatever cards they were dealt. Please don’t say that my team doesn’t deserve a medal because all we wanted was to win our medal in Division B. And we were surprised to have us moved up (for no reason in my opinion, if Mississauga United did the exact same damage).

Good luck to everyone this season and the ones coming up, and hopefully every player will win a medal eventually.

Feel free to come up to me during the games, I'm open to suggestions because like everyone else I want everyone to enjoy the league they're playing in.

I apologize for the long read,
Cheers,
Cristina

Some decent suggestions, cmana, BUT you've made them with the benefit of hindsight.

True, interchanging B.A.M.F. with Mississauga Utd. did little, but that wasn't known at the time. Also, note that B.A.M.F. blew out nearly everyone in DIV B. The Mississauga Utd. blowouts were against the bottom teams in the division. I doubt Mississauge Utd would have blown out Titans, Notorious, or LPG.

True, parity would have been better with 3 divisions rather than 2, but that's hindsight again.

Not trying to put down your suggestions, just drawing attention to the difficulty in re-aligning on-the-fly.

Some good points mentioned. Team BAMF deserve a round of applause for winning Division 1. I still think it could have been a different story had they been playing in the division from week 1. Again that goes down to honesty on how good your team is. If admin doesn't recognise players names then he has no way of judging where they should be. But still you guys and gals deserve the tittle. You out hustled the other teams you played and took the opportunity with the extra man at the end.
