Soccer18, I also have a smashing lawyer, bring your defamation on pal!
Euseb, I don't know pal, I said earlier it was hearsay and that is all I am bringing, no accusations.

I just don't get how if the guy needed surgery, deemed to need it by the doctors, then who the hell hit this referee?
Someone hit him, and if it were someone else other than the player stated, you better start flapping your gums elsewhere than on here and protect your boy. Otherwise, his football is finished for a long ten years!

Mb7, why do you want me to bring a lawyer for pal? Perhaps read what I wrote first. All I asked was if this guy in question jumped back on the field after he was ejected and if he is actually on the gamesheet. Thats all.

no ref should ever be abused...but you must look at both sides and go through the hearing process and decide who is at fault before we start pointing fingers...I was wrongfully accused in the past as well and you are guilty until proven innocent...if you go through the hearings and they find you innocent then you will be allowed to play again, unfortunately in the meantime you must sit on the sidelines and watch the game...the hearing system is a fair process and it will prove who was at fault through witnesses and written statements...I was eventually proven innocent of my accusations, and sometimes the refs do go on power trips because they do have the power to get players suspended from all soccer if they file a report with the PHSA...hopefully this is not the case here, but they do have that power and sometimes they abuse it, I am speaking from experience...but like I said no one should ever touch a ref because soccer would not exist without them, talking sh*t to them is one thing but abusing them physically is insane since this is all for fun and we all need to go to work the next day...hopefully no one here is hurt permanently.

I've been reading this post for a while let me say I wasn't there and I don't condone violence, worse yet in a soccer game, however I think it's not reasonable for us who were not there or involved to criticize or speculate regarding the situation. Also we should not be so quick to jump to the refs defense...yes he MAY have gone to the hospital and yes he MAY have had "surgery" of some sort but lets not forget this is also how millions of dollars are lost by insurance companies every year...not saying the ref is a fraud, just playing devils advocate. So if we don't know quite all the facts lets try to not over speculate.

This has gotten too intense, it needs to cool.
Sorry guys if anything has gotten too testy, I was just talking about what happened.
I really with the best for all involved and that the situation is dealt with correctly. It really is a sad the way this has transpired from the match to even the forum.

Does anyone have an update on what is happening?

I saw this referee last weekend. His eye is still swollen, I assume from the surgery. He had a detached retina, and he lost sight in his eye. He does not know if it will be permanent. He still has problem seeing today, and his life will never be the same. This man has a job that he cannot go to, and a wife and kids. Let me suggest weather an incident happen or not that results in this injury, we are playing f#$%ing recreational soccer. Chill out. These guys obviously had no respect for the game official if he also had to red card another player for grabbing his arm. Where was the captain and other responsible team mates when all this was happening. Why is he back on the field after he was dismissed. Like Kylo said. Give your heads a shake. Something happened to this man that has a major effect on him and his family, and we are more concerned about weather someone with questionable behavior is going to play recreational soccer again? Wake up.

Very well said Phurheus.

It churns my stomach to read and hear about such circumstance and that the concern is so skewed around this situation. I could not imagine the gut-wrenching emotions I would feel being that referree and (if I/he were) reading this thread.

On behalf of my team, Old Thames Boys FC, we wish this referree a successful, speedy recovery and our sincerest to him and his family. I apologize (on behalf) that such arrogance and disregard exists in this league.

That's it? Hearing has been cancelled? An 'apparent' ref assault and the hearing just gets.... cancelled?

Surely more information can be provided here...

WTF!! Sorry, I've been away - This is absolutely horrible!
Cancelled? What is going on? There are questions that need to be answered!
I hope the league has suspended the TEAM involved. this cannot happen again EVER - not cool...

The hearing on Thursday has been cancelled, presumably because the player in question (what do you actually call someone who plays for a team he is not signed for?) has said he is not available to attend.

No new date has been set as yet. As soon as a new date is set, rest assured it will be posted.
